UTAR's Orientation Week-- May 2016

As of 30th of May 2016, I can say that my uni life has been officially begun. The orientation took about a week with several activities for us newbies to play and also important talks.

Let's start with the first day.

22.5.2016

Well.... this isn't exactly the first day but never mind. I arrived at Utar around 8.45am and I totally did not expected a large crowd. It says in the orientation schedule that it starts at 9am. By the time I reached there, the entrance was already filled with people. Ah... the first time Malaysian being early eh? Haha, just joking. So, we were asked by the seniors to line up outside of the hall. In the hall, one of the seniors told us to line up according to the first letter of our first name. There are three sections.

Left : Newbies that have not pay their bills can be pay their bills here.

Middle : Several counters to collect your t-shirt and some documents. My body is petite and they gave me a S-size t-shirt. It looks like I'm wearing a guy's shirt. I'm perfectly okay with the bottom part of the shirt since I have some liking towards oversized shirt. I can even wear the shirt as a mini dress. You will be given these stuffs :

1. Orientation booklet with info such as the finalized orientation schedule, orientation bus schedule, student ID photo taking session, dress codes, etc..
2. Utar's shirt
3. Temporary pass
4. Utar's planner
5.Pen
6. File

Right : To submit the health report, declaration and fees refund policy. As I heard from the announcement, it is not compulsory to hand in on the very first day if you are in a hurry. You can hand it in within a week or so. And yeah, you do not need to bring your chest x-ray along since they didn't asked for mine. But if you are worry, do bring it.

There were a lot of new strangers, seniors and some secondary school friends that I saw. About 10 of them.

23.5.16

Today is the first day of orientation. When I arrived at the entrance of Block B, there were two banners ; Foundation & Degree. They told us to line up according to our respective courses and they gave us a picture with a cartoon logo on it. Mine was.... Beast Boy from Teen Titans and I was told to go up to the first floor and then enter the lecture hall that was on the right. My group is known as Beast Boy. As we sat down, the facilitators in each group asked us to fill in our names on the form that was given.

In the end, we went with Lou Shu Fen as our group name. I don't know who recommended it. But our name is the most interesting and funniest among all.

Lou Shu Fen

We just have to write your name,IC, phone number and the time that we entered the hall. The MC ( I like her! She's very funny) introduce the facilitators to us. My group has 3. A girl and two boys. The ice breaking part is very fun! We have to move up and change seats every time an order is given and the last person to sit will get punishment. I felt very tense at first but this activity loosen me up.

Next, campus adjustment talk. It's nothing important. And because all those talks were conducted in the multi-purpose hall, we had a camera in the hall to show us and to let us hear the talks. And because our MC said that the talks aren't important at all, we just decided to hear the talk for 15 minutes. The balance time was used to play games. Yayy. The same thing goes for the department of student affairs briefing.

By then, it was already lunch time. Our group decided to eat at the chicken rice shop. The food.... wasn't tasty. The rice and soup was tasteless. And it costs RM 5.50. Wow. While waiting for the food to be served, you can see that a lot of them were already talking to each other. .

We went back to the lecture hall and we were told that it will end at 2 pm instead of 5.45 pm. It's because the peer mentoring programme is for those that had registered on Sunday. So the rest do not need to stay. The next talk is the soft skill briefing. The MC also said it is not important at all but I feel that it is. It's because that soft skills are needed when you work. They are skills that you obtained from years of training. It's priceless. So, what's the deal about all these soft skills briefing?

Well, let me tell you. When we graduate, we will receive a certificate from the uni, right? But if you sign up with the soft skills department aka the DSSC, you will receive one extra certificate. This certificate recognise the students' achievements and efforts to improve themselves. If you have this certificate, you may have a higher chance to secure a job due to the soft skills and you are less likely to be told by your company to go for soft skills workshop. You will need to collect 100 points from your Foundation year until to your final year. Every event that you participate in will earn you 10 points. Max 10 points. You can attend speeches...community service... and even orientation! The way I see it, it's easy to earn these points but you gotta have the time for it.

Well...that's all for the first day.

24.5.16

Second day. The talks for this day is pretty important too.WEAR YOUR UTAR SHIRT ON THIS DAY. First of all, we have the student billing and payment of fees briefing. We were told how to pay the bills, where to check, the procedures involved and what to do if this situation happens, etc. Because the facilitators told the MC that they don't have enough time to get to know us, the mentees, we did the real ice breaking among the members in every group. Name, where are we from, are we in foundation in arts or science, degree that will be taken and hobbies. When it was my turn and I finished, nobody clapped. What. It was like a delay of 3 seconds. The others were like.... when one member finishes, the others instantly clapped. I was wondering if I had left a bad impression on them. My whole face was tense.

Anyway. Let's move on to the third activity. Adventure Out. ..... Games... and dance performances by the dance club. That's pretty much all. I feel like I want to join the dance club after watching their performance. After the lunch break, we had some rehearsal for the mass call and meeting with the student council representative aka SRC. Damn. I saw two good looking guys. And because my group was in the lecture hall, so we don't have the need to go for the rehearsal since it's gonna be at the multi-purpose hall at G floor.

The final event is the mass call. Believe me or not, the president took an hour an a half for his speech. Thankfully, we were allowed to sleep and play with our phones since, well, we are in the lecture hall and the president ain't there. It's just normal speeches. Welcome to utar.... adjust your life... and! He said something that struck something within me.

" Keep all of your high school's certificate, keep them safe and treasure them. Because, the new life that you are leading now is very different from what you had.  And to those students that scored well in their SPM, please do remember that having straight As' doesn't mean that you will do well in UTAR too. Like what the president of the SRC said, exams in Utar are hard to pass."

I do fully support the sentence that is in italic. Even I told myself this ; Remember, SPM was SPM. Don't keep your hopes too high even though you got straight As' for SPM. Things might and can change. You won't know. So just try your best.

Sims Freeplay May 2015 Update - Sim Town Health Spa Community Event

Finally a new update is here! This event started on the 3rd of May 2016 and the event will only be here for 12 days. There will be two events that you will be working on ( Actually it is the same but there's personal one and the other is the global community progress.). The aim of this event is to collect gems to unlock the basic spa necessities and also the spa house template.

Ahh...the timer shows 11 days. I updated the game on the next day after the update was released. There goes my extra one day. T^T

Daily Goals
Remember to claim your daily rewards as the constructor coins are hard to obtain!(You can collect these coins by spending 400 quartz on the event flower patch. Just get some coin flower patch in the event tab of the home store. It's free.). The daily rewards will be updated every 24 hours. It is also one of the easiest way to obtain constructor coins. Psss.... you will get 25 constructor coins if you manage to complete all of the goals ^.^

Constructor Coins

How to collect them?
> By spending 400 quartz on the flower patch.
> Complete your daily goals and claim them
> You can also spend your SPs on the Mega Spin Plant. Of course, you will get back more coins than the normal one. You will need to spend 20 SPs for this.

This pic shows you how many coins you will get if you spend 400 quartz.

I'm not so sure if there are other ways to collect these coins. But if you do, please do tell me so that I can update this post >.<

Comic Fiesta 2015 - At the Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre.

Okay, this is another post that was way way back in December last year. It was in December 2015 from Dec 19 to Dec 20. That event was my first time attending CF ( Comic Fiesta for short ). My friend helped me to buy the early birds tickets. As far as I can remember, the tickets were only available for sale at least about 4 months before the event starts. Early birds tickets cost RM40. Day one and day two. No,you cannot buy Day 1 or Day 2 separately.

On that day,we woke up at 6am to prepare and all. No,we did not cosplay because Spm was quite near and we don't have the time to prepare for costumes, makeups and etc. I received a Mikasa wig from my friends as my 17th birthday gift and I wanted to cosplay her so badly because she is one of my favourite characters, apart from Levi. Well actually, I could cosplay her but I had only three weeks. At that time, I've already got the wig, scarf and the shirt. And because I don't have the money to buy online, I decided to diy the rest. But you know, pleather is hard to find here in Cheras. Every time I went to Kamdar at Mid Valley, only the red and silver pleather were sold. The staffs said that the new batch of black pleathers will be coming in soon but they never did. I totally gave up after three weeks.

Back to topic. The event started at 10am but by the time we reached there at 7.30am,the lines for early birds were already half full. Wow. It was my first time and I totally did not expected this kind crowd. And since the doors will be opening at 9.30am for us early birds, we just sat there (at the lines) and waited for the time to pass.

Once the clock struck 9.30am,we were allowed to enter and the staffs gave us goodies. By goodies I meant a plastic bag with a Comic Fiesta logo on it and with a brochure. My friend and I went straight to the booths. I'd like to warn you guys first. If your main objective of coming to Cf is to buy merchandise, you better come early. Because the picture below will show you how it will be like if you arrive after 10.30am.

SARDINES.

My gosh, seriously. It was so packed with people. I was totally okay with crowds before this but after getting stuck in the sea of crowds,I almost fainted when we finally squeezed our way out to the exit. After this event, whenever I go to shopping malls where there are big crowds like Mid Valley, my mind will go blank and my lips turn pale. Sort of like I developed a phobia of crowds.

But I understand the situation though. Cf is a very successful event where many people gather together for games and cosplays. But the crowd was seriously wow. I totally did not expect that amount of people. Luckily before more people entered the hall, my friend and I had already bought things that we wanted to buy.

So, to all Cf newbies, this is my advice to you. IF YOU ARE THE TYPE THAT LOVES MERCHANDISE MORE THAN COSPLAYERS, GO TO THE BOOTHS TO BUY WHAT YOU WANT OR ELSE YOU'LL BE STUCK IN THE CROWD FOR A LONG TIME.

The owners of every booths shown in the picture above were mainly artists that drew their own fan arts and also those that sells other merchandise such as key chains, bookmarks and more drawings.

Now,about the premium booths. The stuffs that they sold were more expensive than the normal ones ( the one in the picture above) . That's because bolsters and pillows of anime characters, wallpapers and even cosplay costumes were sold there.

Premium booths

LEVI AND MIKOTO. These two babes are expensive. My friend bought Levi T.T

Phone covers

Ah yes, as you can see from the second picture, there is a big screen, isn't it? I think it was some competition for League of Legends. It was pretty interesting to watch the gameplay. There were two stages. One for the L.O.L and the other one for performances. I was at the live drawing booth when I heard Unravel. I rushed there but sadly the song ended. The audience were all hyped up.

The food was great but it was kinda pricey. And there's not much of spaces for us to sit. Toilets were hard to find at first. I want to insert the pictures that I took with the cosplayers here but I think I won't be doing so. Because when I was 15,my selfie got 'stolen' and my dad found it at some dating website by using some kind of app that allows you to find and detect the same picture/s at other website/s.. The caption was "Call me" with a love emoji. Shit,I was scared of posting pictures online since that day. Sometimes I do post pictures to Instagram and Facebook but I make sure that I'm not the only one in the photo. Huehuehe. Luckily it was removed from the website. Fuh. So, kids. Don't post your selfie, kay. You won't know what will happen if someone upload your selfie at a different website or social media for goodness-who-knows-purposes.

I bought a Kaneki's mask but ... IT WAS TOO BIG FOR MY FACE. Damn. Luckily it was RM30. I think I'll sell it away.

So,here are some few things that I think you would like to know if you are planning to attend CF for the very first time.

1. Wear comfortable shoes. You will be walking and standing around for a very VERY long time.
2. Girls, don't wear shorts, please. There will be many people and we tend to bump into each other frequently. Hopefully you will understand what I mean.
3. Bring a bottle of water. Drinks sold during Cf are pretty expensive. I recommend you to bring one liter of water if you tend to get thirsty easily like me.
4.Arrive early. Especially to those that will be buying the tickets on that day. Y'all will be last to enter.

Well, my apologies for not inserting a lot of pictures here. There were a lot of people walking around and I do not want to risk my phone getting stolen.

This year cf will be held at PWTC on Dec 17 to Dec 18. However, I'm not sure if I would like to go. I mean, I do enjoy cf but my second semester's exams are on Dec 19. I thought of buying the early bird tickets and sell the Day 2 ticket away. Well... we'll see how. The theme for this year cf is Superheroes. Catwoman is on my list but my spare tires don't allow me to wear tight clothes * grunts* .

Let's Reminisce about The Trip to Cameron Highlands

Ah...Before I start this post, I'd like to say that this trip was one year+ ago. It was during the November 2014 holidays and I went there with my family for some family vacation. There are some details that I might forget to mention here but that's not the point of this post. I want to share with y'all the photos that I had taken back there. And might I say.... those photos are pretty good. ... Narcissist much lol.  We just went there for two days because dad insisted that I have to return to school the following day. ( I skipped one day of school for that. We went on Friday. C'mon... it's the end of the yearrrr. Who wants to go back to school when there is nothing to do at all? The finals were over. But I understand his intentions, don't get me wrong. My parents aren't the type that lets their child to skip school without any good and reasonable reason.)

Well well, ladies and gentlemen, please allow me to recall back those memories...

Where We Stayed? Snooze Too Hotel!

Perfect for pictures!

This is where we stayed for the night.Snooze Too. When we went there, the reception area was still under some construction. Aw yeah, we were at Brinchang. It was pretty isolated as the nearby shop lots were empty. But from what I heard, my dad said that it was newly built. So that explains why it was pretty isolated. It has been a year and two months so I think that the situation now is different than how it was.

The Wi-Fi speed was great, and the lighting inside the rooms oh my gosh. Perfect for selfies. My brother and I hoarded the master bedroom leaving the smaller ones to my parents. HAHAHAHA. And there's some beanie sofas! It was my first time sitting in a beanie sofa,I swear. And even with the hot water, it felt chilly. There was a bath-tub-looking-thing in the bathroom. I was excited thinking that it was a real bath tub. However, when I got in, the water level seemed not to rise even though we put water in it. And then I realised something. IT HAD A HOLE AT THE BOTTOM AND THE WATER KEPT FLOWING.Wow,seriously....  And there was I, feeling too disappointed that I couldn't enjoy the cool and chilly day in a tub of warm water. Ahh....=.= The bed was soft huhuhu, perfect for me.

Partial Total Solar Eclipse

YASSSS. This morning when I woke up, my dad told me that there will be a solar eclipse at 7.45am. But it is only a partial solar eclipse, not a total solar eclipse. I live in KL and according to the national planetarium official website, the eclipse will be at its peak at 8.23am. Luckily for Indonesia, they will be experiencing a TOTAL solar eclipse. Lucky them. Malaysia never got its chance to witness a total solar eclipse......I THINK. If we did, please tell me when so that I can dig out the photos online and stare at them for hours. I was already prepared since 7.40am because I WAS TOO EXCITED. This is my first eclipse sighting even though it wasn't that obvious at all. ( Look at the pictures and you'll know why. )

Before you scroll down and look at those pictures, please be reminded that I did not used a high quality camera like Canon or Nikon. I didn't use a DSLR. Just my phone's camera (Xiaomi Mi4i). So the pictures might not seem professional but whatever. =.= ( I'm eyeing on one of those Canon's camera. THEY ARE SO NICEEE. I'm gonna get one after I start working.) And because I suck at setting the camera, everything was auto. I'm gonna practice more later on.

I did not wear any special eclipse specs, since I knew about it last minute and there wasn't really anywhere to buy those special specs. I just wore sunglasses haha. I hoped that my retinas will be safe. And I also hope that my phone's camera lens won't be damaged.

7.37 am

I was in the car.

7.57 am

zoom in... Err.. the flat part on the sun in the above pic at 7.45 am aint the moon haha

At first I thought that the camera couldn't take any picture of the eclipse because the sun was REALLY REALLY bright at that time. But then when I look closer at the light blue image formed at the middle left side, I realized that it is the reflection of the Sun. ( Before that, I didn't realize it until I saw a similar post on Instagram. It shows a picture of a sun like mine did and that person captioned it internal reflection of the Sun. I googled and it turns out to be true.)

The image, as you can see, shows that the eclipse is already in its second phase. ( According to the info given by the National Planetarium of Malaysia )

8.05 am

8.06 am

It's dark because of the focus, not the eclipse.

8.26 am

At this time, the eclipse is at its peak, forming a gibbous shape Sun. Was 3 minutes late but mehh.

8.27 am

8.32 am

From KL to you.

Well....I did not take any pictures after this because it was painful to the eyes due to the Sun's strong light. However, I'm glad that I've took pictures of the climax. That's what I intended to do anyway.

Below is the eclipse sequence posted by the Planetarium ;

And according to them, the next solar eclipse will be on 26th of December 2019. That's three more years to wait.
